Data is our product. Our data is used to support a plethora of client solutions from KYC to analytics and data management. Hundreds of organisations rely on our data at scale to power their critical operations, including the US government, the OECD, Oracle and many others.

The Role:

OpenCorporates is recruiting a Head of Data Science as a key member of the technology team. This is a hands-on role where you will play a strategic role helping us to define the data science roadmap in order to extract and uplift the value of our foundational company data. Acting as a player manager you will also build out a world class data science team.

Reporting to the CTO, you will also be a key part of the OCTO group (Office of the CTO), an OpenCorporates peer group responsible for distinct domains within the technology sphere. You will be the voice of data science throughout the business, liaising with stakeholders at all levels.

Spearhead the data science roadmap

  • Create new and strategic ways that our clients can use and extract maximum value from our data

  • Alongside the team you will take a hands-on practical approach to create effective models using machine learning and Al/algorithmic programming

Leading and mentoring the team

  • You will be responsible for the day to day management of a small team of data scientists and analysts that you will hire and nurture.

  • You will be the go to mentor for them, and the wider team, allowing them to better solve the problems they face.

  • You will work in collaboration with the CTO and the GTM teams in order to project our data science ambitions.

Collaboration and influence

  • The person in this role is expected to be highly collaborative, working closely with product, development and security and infrastructure as well as go to market individuals looking to project our story into the market.

  • Good communication and influence is key within this role. You must be able to speak to all areas of the business with confidence, and if appropriate join communication with external stakeholders and clients in order for us to liaise with our most technical partners.

Requirements

Desirable skills / experience:

We would love to hear from you if you have had significant Data Science experience, ideally gained from a fast paced start-up environment where change and evolution is the norm. Ideally we would like to see:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in data science, statistics, computer science or similar

  • Hands-on experience with the analysis and interpretation of very large data sets and experience with company data would be preferred

  • Strong programming/scripting skills in languages such as R, Python, Perl or similar

  • An excellent understanding of and experience with machine learning techniques

  • Experience managing and mentoring a team

  • Absolute passion for helping our customers to get the most from our data
